Four Times Face Rule
Towards the end of November 1923 the currency reform was already in place to take effect on 1 December 1923. The state
printers were busy producing stamps in the new currency which would result in bringing an end to hyper-inflation. With the
the rate increase of 26 November it was decided to increase all postage rates by 400% and also sell all existing stamps at
four times face value. All stamps already in public hands were automatically upgraded also.
Due to the confusion this postal period can also provide examples of covers franked at four times over and under face
value
